{"id":302,"date":"2026-04-24T13:54:54","date_gmt":"2026-04-24T13:54:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cleaninggrill.com\/?p=302"},"modified":"2026-04-25T14:28:56","modified_gmt":"2026-04-25T14:28:56","slug":"to-brasero-or-not-to-brasero","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cleaninggrill.com\/index.php\/2026\/04\/24\/to-brasero-or-not-to-brasero\/","title":{"rendered":"To Brasero or Not to Brasero\u2026"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"sqsrte-large\">To brasero or not to brasero?\u00a0 We get that question a lot.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u00a0The brasero is the side fire box that is attached to your typical Argentine style grill.\u00a0 It can be configured for right or left hand side, while some grills may even have a rear option.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sqsrte-large\"><strong>Pros of including a brasero:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol data-rte-list=\"default\">\n<li>\n<p class=\"\">Traditional Argentine grilling is over hot coals and embers, not live flames.\u00a0 The brasero makes sure you are burning over this fuel.\u00a0 Without a brasero, if you needed more fuel, you would have to throw another log on the fire creating smoke and flames directly under what you are cooking.\u00a0 All this is done off to the side with the brasero while you continue to grill.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-rte-preserve-empty=\"true\">\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"\">You never run out of heat.\u00a0 You can use the brasero continuously while you grill.\u00a0 When your heat is low or you are grilling round 2 or 3, you can drop the coals and reload the box to make some more.\u00a0 This is great for the traditional Asados typical of Latin American grilling traditions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-rte-preserve-empty=\"true\">\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"\">It is ideal if a brasero is adept at handling both split wood and charcoal. (Lump or briquettes)\u00a0 An added bonus to look for is a type of shuttle plate that closes off the inside of the box to hold your charcoal in place while it burns.\u00a0 When ready, open the shuttle and your embers drop out.\u00a0 For wood you just lay it right in the box and let the coals fall through the slats.\u00a0 See video here for example:\u00a0<a brasero can create another grill surface or a shelf to keep things warm with an optional Brasero-Top Grate.\u00a0 (When you are not in full blown fire mode.)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p data-rte-preserve-empty=\"true\">How a brasero works.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sqsrte-large\"><strong>Things to consider:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol data-rte-list=\"default\">\n<li>\n<p class=\"\">Cost.\u00a0 Adding the brasero adds to the cost of the grill.\u00a0 It can be an elaborate component to fabricate. \u00a0It should be robustly built, and it should bring more to the table than a simple fire log holder.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-rte-preserve-empty=\"true\">\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"\">Space \u2013 You are adding about 12\u201d of real estate to have the brasero.\u00a0 If space is limited some people opt to have a larger grill area and skip the brasero.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p class=\"sqsrte-large\">For a quick synapsis, we recommend the following:<\/p>\n<ol data-rte-list=\"default\">\n<li>\n<p class=\"\">If the budget or space is tight\u2026 pass on the brasero.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-rte-preserve-empty=\"true\">\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"\">If your typical grilling is 1 round, like for dinner at a set time\u2026 pass on the brasero.\u00a0 Just lift your grill plates up, start your fire underneath the grill area and you\u2019ll be good to go.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-rte-preserve-empty=\"true\">\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"\">If you like to grill or entertain asado style, where you fire up the grill and grill multiple rounds, or grill for several hours at a time, try and get the brasero.\u00a0 It is a tremendous convenience feature to have fuel constantly being prepared while you continue to
